3 Time Management Tips to Help You Study for the ACT

We all know how difficult time management can be, especially when it comes to studying for a test like the ACT. At times it can feel overwhelming. RJ Schreck, a perfect scorer, and the creator of the 36 Prep ACT course, gave us a few insights into how he was able to manage his time and eventually get a perfect score.

Tip #1: Set a time and place where you study every week.

Routine is key here. By planning your study sessions in advance you can avoid running out of time during a busy week. Time goes by fast, and often, if you’re not setting up “study appointments” a month can go by without any ACT practice. By setting aside a couple hours to study once or twice a week you can avoid this pitfall and make steady ACT gains.

With The Strium ACT online course by 36 Prep it’s easy to watch an hour video every couple days. After a month, those 2-3 hours a week turn into 8-12 hours. This type of steady learning is crucial for long term retention and will help you even more when you get to crunch time the month or two before your test date.

Remember: When you set your time and place to study leave the cellphone behind or put it on airplane mode. Nothing interrupts a good ACT video course session than texts and notifications.

Tip #2: Study the ACT whenever and wherever you can, never stay idle.

This may sound like the opposite of tip #1. That’s because it is. Both time management techniques work. And work even better in conjunction.

There’s an old saying that “the devil finds work for idle hands.” It basically means, when your idle you’re probably going to be up to no good. And definitely not studying for an ACT test. Subvert this old cliché and get studying! RJ recommends working study sessions into moments in your usual schedule where you’re not doing anything.

Some examples:

  • Study during TV commericals
  • Study in the car when being driven
  • Study while you eat breakfast or lunch
  • Study while you wait for an appointment or for a pick up

The point is this: there is plenty of time throughout everyone’s day where you have nothing to do or you’re waiting. Transition these moments from useless to useful by fitting in a study session or a 36 Prep ACT video from our industry leading course.

Tip #3: Study when at school
This may seem strange – to study for the ACT when you’re already working academically all day – but it really works. High School has a lot of free time when you add it all up. Between tests being taken, waiting for the teacher to get organized, and completing assignments in class, there is a lot of waiting around. Instead of talking, (which always gets you in trouble) study! You can look over 36 Prep’s video slides and master ACT test taking techniques while you’re in class with nothing else to do. This will save you study time you’d otherwise have to do at home, making your schedule that much more free. Talk about multitasking!

Well, there you have it. Our 3 tips turn you into a total ACT-studying time managing champ. Check out our blog for further tips on mastering the ACT and read up on RJ Schreck’s journey to a perfect ACT score and creation of 36 Prep.
